Candle holder, earthenware, Koster's Premier Pottery, South Australia, 1925-1940
Candle holder, earthenware, wheel-thrown, unusual form with a hollow compressed globular body with a flat base and scooped shoulder, a central short and narrow extruded neck rises from the shoulder and widens to a small bulbous candle socket, the neck is hollow with a small opening below the socket into the body cavity which would allow this item to be used also as a blossom vase however the opening is very small and this usage is doubtful, glazed in an "agate" style lead glaze with an all over glossy dark brown Rockingham glaze highlighted with sponged lighter brown and mid-blue streaks trailing from the candle socket.
