16 Fans, Japanese; No.s 56-71; Japan (SB).
18112:18169 Collection of Ogi or folding fans. This collection was purchased by Archibald Liversidge in Japan and England in 1887. Liversidge was a founding member of the Powerhouse Museum's first trust and Professor of geology and mineralogy at the University of Sydney. The fans were puchased through Rottman, Strome and Company, which had an office in Yokohama and London. In Japan fans were used as functional accessories and for display, dance and presentation (from label text for L95/38)
