The medal's portrait of James Watt is by T & A J Stothard after sculptor Francis Chantrey and was issued by S Parker in the series 'To Great Men'.
This medal was minted in London in 1827 as one of a series celebrating great men.

James Watt is the inventor of the Boulton and Watt steam engine.

Medal, James Watt, bronze, engraved by T & A J Stothard, minted by S Parker, London, England, 1827

Bronze medal with effigy of profile of James Watt on obverse. The legend is 'I Watt'. The engraver's name is under the neck. There is a leaf border around the rim. The reverse has a figure of a woman leaning on a half pillar over which is draped a ribbon with the words 'TO GREAT MEN'. On the pedestal base is the legend 'PUBD BY S PARKER LONDON / MDCCCXXVII / T.STOTHARD R.A.D. / A.J. STOTHARD F.'. The rim is raised and the edge is plain.
