Handkerchief, Torchon lace, bobbin lace technique, sillk, maker unknown, Spain, late Nineteenth Century
A handkerchief, Torchon lace, bobbin lace technique, made of silks, square in shape it includes a solid woven centre and a lace border. Centre of handkerchief is constructed in cream silk in a twill weave. Edge of handkerchief if scalloped and has lace border. Lace border consists of a checker-board design with a honeycomb grounds followed by a a zig-zag design and a circular motif which is repeats forty-eight times around the lace edge. The lace handkerchief is made from silk and is constructed using the bobbin lace technique
