Tickets, opening ceremony, closing ceremony, daily events, Paralympic Games, Sydney, 2000, paper/chrome coat paper, designed by FHA Image Design, Melbourne 1999, made by Weldon, Williams and Lick, Fort Smith Arkansas, USA, 1999
This is a collection of unused tickets remaining from the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games: one ticket to the opening ceremony; one ticket to the closing ceremony; and ten tickets to sports events. Collaborating with the Look of the Games Program, the Australian company, 'FHA Image Design', developed a ticket that would reflect the kit of parts (the Game's graphic design package) and, at the same time, meet certain physical and visual requirements, such as sizing restrictions and the inclusion of venue information.
Ultimately, the ticket would illustrate an abstracted Sydney Paralympic Games logo and a limited palette of four colours - green, purple, red and silver. (This colour restriction ensured that the design did not obscure important ticket information.) In addition, a hologram and three-layered surface - front and back layers and a red safety chrome coat paper - provided some defence against forgery.
The United States company, 'Williams, Weldon & Lick', printed both the Olympic and Paralympic tickets in mid 2000, having printed those for the 1996 Atlanta Games. From the production office at Fort Smith, Arkansas, the Paralympic tickets were packed into express post envelopes and later delivered by Australia Post couriers to private residence. 'Protix', a local ticketing company, also sold tickets from box offices, over the telephone and internet, and through a mail-order system. By the close of the Paralympic Games, ticket sales totalled 1,108,914, including 884,885 day passes and over 224,000 reserved seating tickets.

Though these tickets are unused, they are identical to those that retailed to the general public for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.
Made for and owned by the Sydney Paralympic Organising Committee and donated to the Powerhouse Museum after the Games.
