Object statement
Necktie, Games Force uniform, Paralympic Games, Sydney, 2000, polyester, made by Davenport, Australia, 2000
This polyester necktie was part of the business uniform for men working in Games Force 2000 at the Sydney Paralympic Games. (Games Force 2000 was the accredited workforce for the 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.) Made by Davenport, the necktie features the Sydney Paralympic Games logo and complements other elements of the business uniform - beige pants, a business shirt, a blue blazer and black shoes. Senior staff wore this uniform while general staff wore a casual uniform consisting of a wide-brimmed hat, a polo shirt, trousers and black shoes.
With a team of around 80,000 paid and volunteer staff, Games Force 2000 provided security, first aid, transport, broadcasting, games services, spectator services, and technical services at sporting events. Its business and casual uniforms were some of the most recognisable branding elements of the Games, helping to unify staff and create a bright and recognisable image of the several Games Force divisions. Bonds designed and made the entire uniform, excepting the blazers, wide-brimmed hats, scarves and neckties.
