This calendar was designed so that one sheet per day could be torn off in the countdown to the Olympic torch relay. It was made for use at SOCOG rather than for public distribution. This example is intact, with no pages torn off. Although it was surrounded by controversy in May 2000 with the last minute inclusion of Sophie Gosper as a torch bearer, the start of the torch relay in Greece was greeted in Australia with a sense of public anticipation and excitement. This object has the potential to convey some of that excitement.

Arriving in Australia on 8 June 2000, the Olympic torch relay commenced its 100-day journey around Australia. It involved 11,000 torchbearers throughout Australia with each torchbearer carrying the flame up to one kilometre, with the average slot length of 500 metres.
