2001/84/473 Poster, framed, Sydney 2000 Olympic Games logo poster, colour offset print on paper, designed by FHA Image Design, Sydney, 1999- 2000

Object statement
Poster, framed, Sydney 2000 Olympic Games logo poster, colour offset print on paper, designed by FHA Image Design, Sydney, 1999- 2000
The logo that appears as the central motif on this poster came into existence in 1996 as the official logo of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, replacing the earlier 'squiggly banner' logo of the Sydney bid. Much controversy surrounded the introduction of this logo, partly as a result of the complicated and drawn out process of calling for design submissions.

The poster was one of a series of collector's edition posters commissioned by the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) to commemorate the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. It is popularly referred to as the 'logo poster'. Although perhaps the most widely disseminated of all the posters designed for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and therefore the most familiar, it was not in fact the official poster of the Sydney 2000 Games. The poster nominated by the then President of the International Olympic committee (IOC) to be the official poster for the Games was actually the 'Athletics (running)' poster from the series of eight sports posters produced just prior to the opening of the Games in September 2000.
