Object statement
T-shirt presented to volunteers of the Olympic Games, Sydney, 2000, cotton, designed and made by Bonds, Australia, printed by Jagged Promotional Printing, Sydney, October 2000
This is an example of the grey cotton t-shirts that were presented to the volunteers of the Sydney Olympic Games. Its transfer-printed design depicts the Olympic cauldron and includes an excerpt from the Closing Ceremony speech by IOC president, Juan Antonio Samaranch. In this he described the 50,000 volunteers as the "most dedicated and wonderful volunteers ever".

The Australian clothing company, Bonds, was commissioned to design and make these t-shirts as well as the casual uniforms for the Olympic and Paralympic volunteers. Working for Bonds, Kate Gray and Elma Ventanilla designed the t-shirt on the night of the Closing Ceremony, sending their work to the printers at six o'clock the following morning. For three days, Jagged Promotional Printing produced around 80,000 t-shirts, finishing them in time for the volunteers' ticker-tape parade on the 5 October 2000. The t-shirts were distributed after this event.
Working at Bonds, Kate Gray and Elma Ventanilla designed the t- shirts that depicted the Olympic cauldron and featured an excerpt from the Closing Ceremony speech by Juan Antonio Samaranch. The t-shirt was designed on the night of the Closing Ceremony with the aid of Microsoft Illustrator.

The cotton t-shirts were made in Australia by Bonds and printed by Jagged Promotional Printing in Sydney.,
This t-shirt was given to Wendy Paulucci, the designer of casual volunteer uniforms made by Bonds. She kept it as a record of Bonds' work for the Sydney Olympic Games.

Gift of Wendy Paulucci for the Sydney 2000 Games Collection.
