Building stone, Red Ancaster, Ancaster, Lincolnshire, England, purchased 1883.
Building stone, Red Ancaster. One of the dolitic group and although called red is only of a greyish red. It is found only in limited quantities in the upper strata of the Ancaster quarries. Many of the ancient Lincolnshire churches and all the gentlemen's houses in the district are built of this stone. Locality: Ancaster, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England.
