Christmas card, Kym and Julie Bonython to Dahl and Geoffrey Collings designed by Kym Bonython, paper/ink, Dahl and Geoffrey Collings, Killcare Heights, New South Wales, Australia, 1983
Christmas card from Kym and Julie Bonython, 'Eurilla', Summit Road, Crafters, South Australia, to Dahl and Geoffrey Collings which was designed by Kym Bonython. On the front cover of the card is a colour photograph showing their 99 year old homestead 'Eurilla' being destroyed during the Ash Wednesday bushfires of 16 February 1983. The caption inside the card reads: 'Ash Wednesday, February 16 1983, 99-year-old Eurilla is destroyed together with hundreds of other homes in the nation's worst bushfires that claimed 71 lives. We lost all our possessions - art, record collection, books, furniture, photographs, films, clothing. One of the few items saved was my camera with which I shot this glimpse into Dante's inferno, being a view through the front door. A new, but smaller, Eurilla is arising which should be ready about 12 months after the disaster.'
