Lace length, one of two, Carrickmacross appliqué border, linen and cotton, Ireland, 19th Century
A lace length, one of two, Carrickmacross appliqué border, made of linen and cotton with a floral repeat design. Border has a scalloped headside border with a continuous floral garland each scallop containing a floral spray which extends up into the plain machine net ground. Decorative fillings and bars are worked within the floral motifs and bordonnet outline thread. The repeat design is 100mm in width and is repeated three times along lace length. Lace is made of linen and cotton and uses appliqué lace technique.
