Daguerreotype in case, young man, metal / glass / wood / leather, attributed to Thomas Bock, Launceston, 1848
A daguerreotype showing a portrait of a young man photographed in a studio setting. The young man wears a plain jacket, striped collared waistcoat and a collared shirt collar with a bow tie. A pot plant can be seen behind the man's shoulder. The daguerreotype is enclosed in a hinged case made from wood that has been covered in leather. The case opens to reveal the daguerreotype framed in an arch shaped brass mat. A glass panel sits over the top of the brass mat. The lid of the case is lined with red velvet. A metal hook on the front of the case allows it to be closed securely. Text has been handwritten on a thin strip of blue paper has been adhered to glass below the image.
