This is a model of the Giotto spacecraft that was launched in 1985 to intercept Halley's Comet on 13 March 1986.

Model, Giotto Spacecraft, pewter / wood, made by Mark Models, Birmingham, England, 1985
A model of the Giotto spacecraft mounted on a wooden base. The model consists of a short cylindrical body made from four curved panels of blue pewter and a black pewter base. The blue panels have a textured surface. A pewter dish that has been painted white sits on top of the cylinder and surrounding the dish is a tripod made from black pewter. The model has been attached to a metal rod that is inserted at an angle into the wooden mount. There is a label attached to the front of the wooden mount which features the 'BRITISH / AEROSPACE' and European Space Agency ('esa') insignias. On the back of the mount is a gold coloured makers label.

The label on the front of the mount reads 'BRITISH / AEROSPACE / GIOTTO/ 1:20 Scale / esa'. The makers label reads 'HAND CRAFTED / BY / Mark Models / BIRMINGHAM B33 9AQ ENGLAND / IN / ENGLISH PEWTER'.
