Frances Mary Burke (1907-1994) was born in Melbourne. She studied at the National Gallery School, the George Bell School and Melbourne Technical College (RMIT).
Along with Morris Holloway, Frances Burke set up Burway Prints. The company was Australia's first registered textile screen printing company. The company eventually became Frances Burke Fabrics, however she continued to use a company managed by Morris Holloway to print her designs.
In 1948 Frances Burke opened a shop in Melbourne called 'New Design'. She was involved with the Society of Designers for Industry (later Design Institute of Australia)
