Magazine clipping, mounted, Perth Observatory and residence, paper / ink, photographer unknown, Perth, Western Australia, Australia, 24th December 1898, used by Sydney Observatory, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1898-1979.

A black and white clipping from a publication. The clipping, which has been mounted on thick card, shows the Perth Observatory and residence at Mt Eliza. The area around the buildings is devoid of vegetation and a road can be seen leading up to the residnec. There are annotations on the front and back of the mount that are believed to have been made by H C Russell.

Text printed below the image 'THE OBSERVATORY Mt Eliza / VIEWS OF PERTH / W.A.' Handwritten on the front of the mount 'Latitude 31 59' 9.63" S / H M Se / Longitude 7 43 21 74 E ([Nat]: Nov 30/99)'. Handwritten in the bottom right corner of the mount in red 'Cost of residence [pound sign] 7500'. Printed on back of mount 'Clare's Xmas Number' followed in pencil by 'Dec 24/08'. Handwritten in red ink 'Cost of Outfit Complete / over [pound sign] 31000'.
