Description
Kettle, or tetsubin, cast-iron, and bronze cover with silver inlay on handle, Japanese makers mark, [Tokyo], Japan.

A cast-iron kettle or tetsubin of irregular shape, pitted surface in rustic style, slightly raised and plain neck, rounded curved spout. Two applied iron loops at opposite sides of neck receive turned out hooks at lower edge of swinging handle. Handle thicker at upper edge with two indentations and bearing design of leaves in inlaid silver. Circular lid of bronze made in two sections, top section joining base under rounded rim edge. Collar underneath and engraved maker's signature, black laquered. Upper side with central concave section at centre of which is attached five-lobed knop on five-petalled cut-work base. Upper side of lid laquered dark red. Corroded interior, silver inlay worn on handle (OF).
