Designed by Eero Aarnio, Finland, 1966. First exhibited at the Cologne furniture fair in 1965. Made of glass fibre using an inside mould, a technique previously used only by the boat industry. As a new material, glass fibre gave impetus to experimenting with new designs

Armchair, 'Globe', fibreglass / aluminium / fabric / synthetic materials, designed by Eero Aarnio, Finland, 1966, made by Asko International, Finland, 1966-1972

Armchair, 'Globe', made of yellow moulded fibreglass, seamed around the centre, in the form of a hollowed sphere swivelling on a circular yellow painted aluminium base. The interior is upholstered in four segments of black velvet fabric, with two square black velvet cushions, one each to seat and back. Manufacturer's mark on underside of seat.
