Object statement
Tricycle, 'Razor Jr Scuttlebug', with packaging, plastic / metal / cardboard / paper, designed by Ideation Design, Prahran, Victoria, Australia, made by Funtastic Ltd, China, 2005
The Razor Jr Scuttlebug is an appealing foldaway ride-on trike designed for use by children up to the age of three. It folds flat for easy transportation and storage. The rollerblade style wheels allow for a smooth and quiet ride both indoors and outdoors. A key feature of the product is its appeal when in the folded position - it resembles a bug. When folded the handle bar doubles as a carry handle.

The Scuttlebug is an evolution of the internationally successful Razor Scooter launched in 1999. It represents the success of Australian product design in a competitive international market. The Scuttlebug was designed by Melbourne-based design firm Ideation Design, and made in China for Funtastic Ltd, Australia's largest toy distributor. It received an Australian Design Mark and Powerhouse Museum Selection in 2006.
Designed by Ideation Design in Prahran, Victoria in 2005. Made in China for Funtastic Ltd, a company based in Victoria, in 2005. Patent application number is 2003250588, the inventor was Matthew Golias, and details are available on AusPat.

The Scuttlebug is designed for use by children from 1-3 years and up to 20kg in weight. The latches are designed to be operated by the parents with the spring rating beyond the capabilities of 3 year olds. The main housings are moulded in ABS with Polyamid used for high impact areas. Tubing is steel with riveted and screwed construction. It is suitable for disassembly.

The Razor logo and trademarks are owned by Razor USA but Australian company Funtastic Ltd manufactures and distributes this Razor Jr Scuttlebug folding tricycle.
This tricycle was submitted to Standards Australia as part of the Scuttlebug entry in the 2006 Australian Design Awards. After the awards judging and announcement it was transferred to the Powerhouse Museum and displayed in the 2006 Australian Design Awards exhibition at the Museum from July 2006 - June 2007.

The Razor Jr Scuttlebug was awarded an Australian Design Mark and Powerhouse Museum Selection in 2006.

In 2006 over 200 entries were received in the Australian Design Awards competition. The judging panel recommended 41 of these products receive an Australian Design Mark and of these, 21 products for an Australian Design Award. The products receiving the Australian Design Award and the Powerhouse Museum Selection were announced at a dinner and awards ceremony on 19th May 2006 at Wharf 8, Sydney.
