Kit radio 'White Little General', 1933 - 1943
zoom image

Object statement
Radio receiver, 'White Little General' kit set mantle radio, and document, wood / glass / electronic components / paper, designer and maker unknown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, c. 1938
This radio was possibly assembled by the donor from a 'kitset'. Kit sets sold by mail order through radio and hobby publications and were usually supplied with all parts and a case for assembly by the purchaser. This one is referred to as the 'White Little General' in circuit diagrams made by the donor in the mid 1980s when adjustments were made to repair and improve its operation. The maintenance of the radio over almost half a century is testament to the donor's affection for it.
The designer and maker of the radio is unknown.
This radio was collected between 1940 and the late 1960s when the donor was an active radio electronic engineer operating a business from home building and repairing radios. The donor accumulated a collection of radios, valves, radio journals and assorted electrical engineering material over a lifetime.
