Philatelic cover, launch of Samos 1 satellite, paper, issued in the United States of America, 1960
Envelope with red and blue striped border. On the left side of the envelope is a purple ink image of a rocket having taken off from the United States. Black typewritten text above and below describe the event. In the upper right corner is a 7c United States stamp. The stamp commemorates the centennial of the first official air mail delivery in the United States. The postmark is at the centre of the envelope and is from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, dated 11 October 1960. The envelope is addressed to a post office box in Florida. On the back of the envelope is handwritten text in pen relating to the Samos satellite.
