The 'Miss Molly' stackable seating range was launched in 2004 and embodies many aspects of Schamburg + Alvisse's design principles - function, comfort, attention to detail and sustainability. The chair is made from plywood sourced from certified eco forests and is described by Schamburg + Alvisse as being 'thoroughly modern without ever being trendy,' with 'timeless and elgant looks that are reassuringly familiar'. Its design extends the tradition of functional, innovative chair design established internationally in the 1950s and 60s. The 'Miss Molly' range has received a number of design accolades including, most notably, the Australian Design Awards 'Design Mark', 2004. It was included in the Australian Design Awards Powerhouse Selection in 2004.
Schamburg + Alvisse is a Sydney-based design collaboration between interior designer Marc Schamburg and architect Michael Alvisse. Their design partnership was established about [1993] when Schamburg and Alvisse teamed together to design the 'Stretch' series of tables and seating, a range that has remained one of their most successful and popular lines. Since the mid 1990s S+A have designed a wide range of furniture and lighting for corporate and domestic contexts and have exhibited widely and won a number of awards. At the Powerhouse Museum their work was included in the '4+1' exhibition, 1999 and they have shown at the Milan Furniture Fair and Tokyo Designers Block. The Schamburg + Alvisse design philosophy focuses on products with clean, simple, innovative lines that have durability and longevity and that pay meticulous attention to materials and finishes. They are particularly concerned about the ecological sustainability of their products, often sourcing 'eco-friendly' materials and production processes.
