Mens black leather boots by Dolce & Gabbana, 1990 - 2000
zoom image

Object statement
Boots (pair), mens, leather / nylon, designed and made by Dolce & Gabbana, Italy, worn by Paul Jellard, Australia, c. 1995
Dolce and Gabbana was established in 1982 by Domenico Dolce (b.1958) and Stefano Gabbana (b.1962). Their first womenswear collection was shown in 1985 and by the 1990s they had established themselves as the purveyors of sexy clothes for women who want a touch of glamour and an escape from the pervasive unisex sporty styles of that time. This same element of sexiness mixed with traditional elements were applied to the mens wear range which was first introduced in 1990. Dolce and Gabbana use skilled Sicilian crafts women and tailors to produce a more laid-back, witty approach to the 1990s men's fashion after the brasher, more rigid styles of the previous decade.

This pair of boots was owned and used by Paul Jellard (1945-2002) a Sydney based fashion retailer who opened the ground breaking boutique 'Five Way Fusion' in Paddington. The store sold imported menswear and transformed not only the look of many of Sydney's males but also the way Sydney men shopped. Jellard often purpose-bought with a specific client's requirements in mind and he also introduced a maintenance service.
This pair of boots was designed and made by Dolce & Gabbana in Italy in the 1990s. Domenico Dolce was born in 1958 in Polizzi Generosa a small village in Sicily. He studied fashion design in Sicily and began his working career in his family's clothing factory. Stefano Gabbana was born in 1962 in Venice and studied graphic design. The two met in 1980 when they were working as assistants in an atelier in Milan. They established Dolce & Gabbana in 1982.
These boots were owned and used by Paul Jellard (1945-2002), a Sydney based fashion retailer who opened the boutique 'Five Way Fusion' in Paddington.
