Description
Photographic print, black & white, glass pub sign for the Balfour Hotel advertising Westphal's Wines, designed by Rousel Studios, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1920s
Painted glass pub sign designed for the Balfour Hotel by Rousel Studios' artist Gordon Trindal. At the top of the sign are the words, "WESTPHAL'S WINES/UNRIVALLED". The sign features a painting of a dark-haired woman standing in bare feet wearing large circular ear rings, bangles on her arms, and a long loose dress tied at the waist. The woman is pictured stretching. At the bottom right of the sign is the name of "Rousel Studios". This was one of the images designed by Rousel Studios for William Westphal, licensee of the Balfour Hotel on the corner of King and Elizabeth streets, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and represented the Studios' first hotel advertising account.
