Description
Photographic print, black & white, glass pub sign for the Balfour Hotel advertising Penfolds table and fortified wines, designed by Rousel Studios, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1920s
Painted glass pub sign designed by the Rousel Studios' artist Tom Porter. The sign features a painting of a well-dressed elderly gentleman with a quizzical look on his face holding a glass of sherry or port in his left hand. The text of the sign at bottom right reads, "THAT'S/NOT/PENFOLDS." This was one of the images designed by Rousel Studios for William Westphal, licensee of the Balfour Hotel on the corner of King and Elizabeth streets, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and represented the Studios' first hotel advertising account.
