Needlework picture, wool/glass/silk/linen/wood, framed, maker unknown, 1837-1901.
Needlework picture embroidered in wool and coloured glass beads with silk threads in the background. Embroidered in tentstitch on linen canvas using both petit point and gros point. The scene is set beside a river with three children being released from a locked basket by a fourth child dressed in a broad rimmed hat with blue feather and outsized sword holding up a key. The main tree, the basket, children's clothes and water are all in various coloured beadwork using tentstitch whilst the grand foliage, a tree in the distance, and the children's faces and limbs are in woolwork in tentstitch. The children's faces and limbs are featured in petit point. Original frame consists of an inner gold painted wooden frame and an outer frame of birds eye maple with glass.
