Description
Sweet basket, crepe paper / wire, maker unknown, England / Australia, 1915-1925
Sweet basket formed from a wire frame and covered in crepe paper. The basket features a circular white paper base that flares up into an oval mouth. The crepe paper is arranged in the shape of a dark and light pink rose with rolled, layered edges which radiate around the outside. Around the bottom of the basket is a band of green crepe paper forming the sepal of the flower and on the top is a thin wire handle covered with faint green crepe paper. The inside of the basket is covered in white paper and features tightly pleated sides.
