Lid for playing card box, King of Hearts, porcelain (bone china), made by Doulton & Co, Burslem, England, 1891-1902

A rectangular lid for a box for playing cards, made from moulded fine bone china, consisting of four short panels rising to flat, rectangular top. The top of the lid is decorated at the centre with a depiction of the King of Hearts, in blue transfer print, with two pale brown hearts, on a reserved background, defined by a gold edge. Surrounding the central decoration is a border of pink and green and floral sprays on a pale brown background. The lid is edged in gold. The lid is plain white on the interior.
