H. A. Lenehan, was the Government Astronomer at Sydney Observatory from 1907-1908. This image is significant because it is one of the few official portraits of Lenehan known to exist and because it formed part of the fabric of Sydney Observatory, having hung in the foyer of the Observatory for many years. It is also significant for its relationship to the scientists who played an important part in the development of science in Australia.
