Object statement
Magazines (11), 'TV Week', paper / metal, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1959-1962
'TV Week' is a popular magazine that lists the week's television programs and contains articles about shows and personalities. It began in 1958 and has consistently remained the leading television magazine in Australia. This group of 'TV Week' magazines dates from the late 1950s and early 1960s.

For most Australians, television is part of our daily landscape of news and entertainment. It permeates our culture like no other medium. The programs we watch help to shape our views, and to reflect and define our culture. TV has changed the nature of the modern entertainment industry, impacting on most areas of leisure, especially sport and popular music. With its hunger for ten second grabs, it has altered the nature of politics. It has an influence on everyday life, domesticity, consumption and leisure. It impacts on our aesthetic, ethical and social values. Locally produced shows are set in Australian environments and reflect, challenge, illustrate the diversity of this country's cultural life. If Australia has a distinctive television culture, then 'TV Week' is its voice. 'TV Week' is a medium by which television public relations and marketing people propagate publicity about personalities and programs. The Logie awards, Australian television's annual awards, are organised and publicised via 'TV Week'. In fact most Logie award winners are determined by the votes of 'TV Week' readers.
