In the early days of Australian television, the popular magazine 'TV Week' was preceded by a similar magazine titled 'Television Preview'. This is a rare 1957 copy of that publication.

For most Australians, television is part of our daily landscape of news and entertainment. It permeates our culture like no other medium. The programs we watch help to shape our views, and to reflect and define our culture. TV has changed the nature of the modern entertainment industry, impacting on most areas of leisure, especially sport and popular music. With its hunger for ten second grabs, it has altered the nature of politics. It has an influence on everyday life, domesticity, consumption and leisure. It impacts on our aesthetic, ethical and social values. Locally produced shows are set in Australian environments and reflect, challenge, illustrate the diversity of this country's cultural life. If Australia has a distinctive television culture, then 'TV Week' is its voice. This publication set the tone and style for 'TV Week', which took its place the following year (1958). Like 'TV Week', 'Television Preview' was a medium by which television public relations and marketing people propagate publicity about personalities and programs.
