This calendar was created by the Culture and Heritage Department of the Siksika Nation. Their primary goal of the Culture and Center is the preservation of the Siksika way of life, the ceremonies, language, customs and the arts.
The Siksika Nation, also known as the Northern Blackfoot, is located 60 minutes east of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The traditional lands of the Siksika are located in the midst of rolling hills and rich river valleys. A vast area of undisturbed land allow the Siksika to experience their closeness with nature. Siksika Nation is an important historical place where the signing of Treaty 7 took place in 1877 at "Ridge Under Water".
It is the history of the land and the people that make Siksika unique. The rich heritage of the Siksika is maintained by the Culture and Heritage Department through programs designed to promote and preserve a way of life. The calendar project promotes the vision of the people, the language, historical events and dance. From 3 to 100 years old, the Siksika take pride in being unique.
