Statement of significance

This is a wooden slide rule made by Keuffel and Esser, one of the most significant American producers of a broad range of high quality slide rules.

Production notes

Made in 1945 by Keuffel and Esser, USA, which was probably the largest manufacturer of slide rules in the world. It is said to have made over 10 million rules, finally closing down in 1976. The range of products was comprehensive and imaginative, log-log scales were introduced c. 1938.

A wooden slide rule with a white calculating surfaces and a sliding plastic magnifier. The slide rule is stored in a black leather case that closes with a flap at one end.
