Object statement
Microscope with accessories, binocular, polarising, brass/wood/glass, Swift and Son, London, England, circa 1900
English company, established by optician James Swift in the late 1850s. He went into partnership with his son, James Mansell Swift, and the firm remained in business until the next century. They operated at 43 University St from about 1872 to 1881, and then moved to 81 Tottenham Court Road. Microscope manufactured c.1900.

Swift and Son operated in premises at Tottenham Court Road from 1881.
Donor had premises at Macquarie St. Sydney, possibly a medical practioner).

Description
Microscope with accessories, binocular, polarising, brass/wood/glass . Iron horseshoe base and stand ,swivel mirror, one side flat, other concave, spear sample holder with arrow head mounted on swivel point, rack & pinion focussing , screw adjusrment at top of columns, circular stage with XY sample mounting controls, rotating disc sub-stage with different sized apertures, condenser. Iobjective lens marked 1" Swift & Sons. Full range of accessories.
