Object statement
'Echolin' violin, timber, [Henry Graham, Sydney, 1878]
English patent for a similar type of violin taken out by Michael Henry Collins, of U.S.A., in 1879 (see Ed. Heron Allen; Violin Making As It Was, And Is, (Ward Lock & Co. Ltd, London, 1885, pp.111-112). However, the United States Patent Office issued a patent (no:191,029) to Michael Henry Collins titled "Improvements In Musical Instruments" for an instrument called the Echolin on 22 May 1877.

Round body with central cavity decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay. Wooden disc or resonator set inside sound hole.
