Wedding ensemble, womens, silk/cotton, China, 1900-1925.
Wedding ensemble comprising a jacket and skirt.
-1. Jacket: longline jacket made of black silk, long sleeves and stand collar. The applique embroidered roundels which have been recycled from another piece. The roundels are in polychrome floss silk thread with a crane and rice heads. The hem and cuffs are embroidered with water, waves and mountains. The stand collar is also embroidered with rice heads. Centre front opening fastens with black knot and loops and ties. Lined with blue silk.
-2. Skirt: long skirt made of red silk satin embroidered with rice stalks, cranes, mountains and waves in polychrome silk floss. Skirt constructed in two parts, each with one plain panel, one embroidered panel and one pleated panel. The pleats are stitched down at intervals and embroidered panel overlap the plain panels. Embroidered panels and hem trimmed with black satin binding. Lined with blue silk. Wide waistband of cream cotton with heavy cotton tape ties.
