Evening jacket, silk velvet / silk satin, made by Joly Dameron, France, owned and worn by Dame Nellie Melba, England / Australia, c.1910.

Womens loose fitting, untailored evening jacket made of red silk velvet. The jacket has a V-neckline with a roll collar and lapels and long wide sleeves. The sleeves end with a turned up cuff that shows the cream silk satin lining. There are two slash pockets at left and right front at hip level trimmed with cream silk satin. The centre front opening fastens with one red silk velvet covered button. The jacket is machine sewn and fully lined with cream silk satin.
