Child's music box, maker unkown, [France], c.1875-1900 (B Nemec 1994)
Small child's music box, late Victorian, cylindrical, metal casing, side has 6 small lyre motifs impressed into the surface at evenly space intervals. The top has a colour image of a small boy in a check suit playing a flute for a small girl in a pink dress who is listening/ singing (holding some kind of manuscript), the face of the girl has been partiall torn away. There is a handle protruding through a hole in the top used to wind the music mechanism. The handle is a flat reverse "S" shape with a small white ceramic knob attached. The base of the box has an engraving in black, white and gold, although deteriorated there is evidence of several musical instruments around the edges and the words "Musique a Air" printed in the middle.
