These models may have been made from visual inspection of the originals as the modeller, W J Hickey seems to have made them while a pupil at St. Aloysius' College in Sydney. A photograph of the Broadsmith B-1, 'Mascot' model (H5122-3) appears in the St. Aloysius College magazine in 1924 (see photocopy on blue file H5122-1). As contemporary representations of existing aircraft they have a value in the history of modelling above later models made from photographs or commercial plans. The models also have significance as two of them, the Avro Dyak and the Broadsmith B-1 'Mascot' represent aircraft manufactured in Sydney, at Mascot, by the Australian Aircraft and Engineering Company, the first aviation company in Australia established for the series production of aircraft; the Avro 504K. They re-engined this aircraft with the Sunbeam Dyak to take account of the local conditions. The Broadsmith B-1 was a local design for an airliner and was unique.
