Description
Embroidered pouch, tapestry, maker unknown, (Turkey), 1860-1900

A heavily decorated pouch with elaborate floral designs that are stitched onto a purple velvet ground. The stitching is of a very fine silver metal that resembles a filigree styled pattern. The flowers are raised, some with coloured stitching inside and some with a red velvet background. The opening at the top has an undulating pattern to the top of the bag with fine woven metal draw strings to both sides. The bag has a metal tassel to one side of the drawstring and also another at the base of the bag. The lining on the inside consists of a blue fabric.
