Ankle boot, womens, silk brocade / leather / linen / silk, Robert Dixon Box, prize work, London, England, c. 1845
Womens single straight side laced ankle boot of turnshoe construction with rounded square toe and stacked heel. Boot consists of a two piece blue and black silk brocade leg stitched over a red Morocco winged vamp, seamed front and back, side lace over tongue, thirteen pairs of worked holes, no laces remaining, with stitching up to fifth hole, and decorated with metallic gold fringe along top edge. Upper lined in fine linen and ivory moire silk with braid backstrap and the sock is of pasted linen. Black leather heel features a scalloped top piece, pin point work and design in centre. Black leather sole features a curved back edge, black edge finish forepart with cream and black edge finish at waist.
