Knee gaiter, one of pair, mens, suede / leather, maker unknown, Spain, late 19th century
Handsewn one of a pair mens knee gaiters featuring a suede cover for the instep and a leather strap to go under the boot. Leg features three domed brass buttons each side with lacings on the outside, nineteen buttonholes with seventeen loops to slot through, three holes at the top and leather laces. Gaiter features a leather backstrap which widens at the bottom and a leather centre front and instep seam. All edges are leather bound. Gaiter decorated with leaf shaped motifs outlined in leather applique including instep and front. Gaiters decorated with scallops, diamonds and festoons in rows of stitching and scallops in blue silk 'buttonhoes' with a fan of white stitches and leather appliqued leaf shaped motifs on edges including instep and front.
