Knee boots, straight right of pair, mens, embroidered morocco leather / gilded metal, maker unknown, [northern Nigeria], Africa, late 19th century

Mens knee boot, straight right of pair, veldtshoen construction with rounded square toe and no heel. Boot consists of chrome yellow morocco leather upper featuring a straight leg side seam, a red piped one piece leg cut slightly higher at the front and a red piped back seam. Boot features embroidered decoration in green, pink and blue with a floral and crescentic motif on the front, scrolls and trellis centre front of leg, and concentic and scrolling motifs on the sides. Inside of boot also embroidered. Side seams outlined in gilt metal loops. Sole features little shaping at the waist and is stitched in the channel.
