Slip on shoe, straight one of pair, boys, silk / compressed felt / leather, maker unknown, China, c1870-1889

Straight one of a pair, boys slip on shoe of rand construction with deep round toe over round sole with high toe spring and no heel. Shoe consists of silk upper featuring a black silk cap with centre front and back piped seams, ivory sides and black outlined green top edge binding. Shoe decorated with black and cream chain stitched embroidery on the cap and stylised blue flowers on the side. Shoe and sock lined in cotton and sole features a felt platform which rises at the seat. Outsole is in leather, quilted almost to the toe.
