Knee high boot, left of pair, mens, depilated sealskin, made by Inuit people, Greenland, 1850-1900
Mens knee high boot, straight left of pair, veldtshoen construction, thonged straight through with square toe and no heel. Boot consists of depilated sealskin uppers featuring vamp with inside peaked tongue, a front seamed one piece leg and a seam joining the leg and vamp. A pair of straps at the joint pass through loops in the sole seam, cross and pass through the sole seam at the waist then tie round the ankle. Top edge features a drawstring thong. There appears to be remains of shoe grass lining in the bottom. Sealskin sole is straight sided, features a fine thonged edge, broken on one boot and the sole is square at the seat end.
