Toe thong sandal, right straight of pair, mens, leather / hide, made by Haussa tribe, Nigeria, 1850-1895
Mens toe thong sandal, straight right of pair, thonged rawhide construction with round toe and no heel. Sandal features an upper with a strap thonged between 1st and 2nd toes attached to wide straps with slot in to sole at the side of the waist. Coiled brown button at join on the instep and dark brown leather insole features a thonged edge. Sandal decorated with rows of white stitching at the toe and a band of contrasting leather up the centre of the insole. Sole features cream thonged edge and incurves at the waist to a sharp outcurve at the seat with full mid sole and outsole. Hair side faces the ground.
