Shoe, right of pair, womens, wood / leather / metal / wool, maker unknown, [Normandy], France, 1850-1875
Womens wooden shoe, straight right of pair, carved in one piece of wood with leather strip nailed on. Shoe consists of a very short wooden vamp with carved marks along throat and very low sides. A wide leather strap featuring an impressed trellis and floral design and lined in black wool is attached at the waist and widens at the instep. Straps nailed to the side, meeting almost in the middle of the sole. Sole thicker at the forepart and cut away under the waist and heel cut in one with the rest of the clog waisted.
