Toe peg clog, right of pair, mens, ivory / metal / brass, maker unknown, [worn by Brahmin priests], India, 1850-1879

Mens carved ivory toe peg clog, right of pair, constructed from a single piece of ivory with wooden peg through toe peg underneath featuring toes pointed at the top, square at base and heel with brass plates on base. Clog features a carved stilted toe and heel, figure 8 shaped sole with carved designs and a single [metal] toe peg between first and second toes with decorative top, the left shortened where broken. Decoration features fluting on the stilts, hatched centre and edges and leaf patterns on the curved sides. Heel features bronze plates screwed onto the base, one missing and now broken.
