The envelope was made for Kingsford Smith Air Service Ltd in Mascot, New South Wales, in 1934.
Charles Kingsford Smith and Captain P G Taylor made the first flight across the Pacific from Australia to the United States of America in 1934 in the 'Lady Southern Cross'.

Philatelic cover, Australia to USA via 'Lady Southern Cross', signed, paper, envelope made for Kingsford Smith Air Service Ltd., Mascot, New South Wales, Australia, 1934

Envelope carried by Charles Kingsford Smith on the aircraft 'Lady Southern Cross' from Australia to the United States of America. The envelope is addressed to Kingsford Smith c/o American Hawaiian Steamship Company. The name of the maker of the envelope is in the upper left corner along with the company's logo: wings attached to a circle and a mongram within the circle. There are four stamps on the envelope and an air mail label. Two are Australian stamps; one commemorates the centenary of the state of Victoria with a depiction of an Indigenous Australian against a background of European style buildings, the other stamp is of a biplane flying over a field of sheep. One stamp is from Fiji and is of King George V in profile. One stamp is from the United States and depicts three men and a woman walking. There are four postmarks on the front of the envelope; two from Mascot, dated 18 October 1934, one from Fiji, dated 22 October and one from Honolulu, dated November 3. There is a postmark on the back of the envelope that is from Los Angeles, dated November 5. The cover has been signed by Charles Kingsford Smith.
