Border with scalloped and serrated headside and picots
Pattern
Repeating floral spray, arranged in 2 staggered rows along the headside. The sprays along the outer edge are extended to fill the scallops. Regular arrangement of floral dots elsewhere, all in mesh ground.
Technique
The solid areas of the design are worked in half stitch or cloth stitch outlined with a gimp thread.
The fillings are either a single tally in a variation of Flemish filling (Cook and Stott p13) or an arrangement of tallies within: similar to H5111-17. (diagram overleaf)
The ground is plaited 4 times and twisted twice.
A machine lace engrelure has been stitched along the footside and across one end.
